Franklin County Board

Members: Three districts, three board members per district (9 total)

Meetings: Third Monday of the month, 6 pm.

Elections: All Board seats are up for election in November 2022. Four-year terms for all. After the 2022 election, some district positions will have two-year terms; this structure and schedule will be determined during the 2022-2026 term.

Randall Crocker (Dist. 1)

Democrat, first elected in 2000, current term ends in 2022, up for Re-election. Former trustee for Rend Lake College Board of Trustees: 1997-2009 and 2013-2019. Attended Rend Lake College. Was named as a defendant in a lawsuit in which a 12-year-old detainee being held in the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Center attempted suicide and later died (in 2012). The County was also named. Suit was settled in 2019. Was named one of the “50 Influencers of Rend Lake College” in 2017. Also named in a racial discrimination suit in 2008 regarding his service on the Rend Lake College Board.

Mark Kash, (Dist. 1)

Republican, attended Rend Lake College, and Southern Illinois University Carbondale, current term ends in 2022; Up for Re-election, Concerned about the county’s spending. Wants improvements to roads and bridges. Says he is “not a politician”. Republican Precinct Committeeman. 

J. Larry Miller, Board Chairman (Dist. 2)

Brad Wilson, Vice-Chairman (Dist. 2)

Republican, first elected in 2020, current term ends in 2022; up for re-election, Fiscal conservancy; wants to find ways to generate more revenue, without additional taxes.

Ray Minor, (Dist. 2)

Democrat, first Elected in 2018, current term ends in 2022; up for re-election. Finance Committee Chairman

John Gossett (Dist. 3)

Republican, first elected in 2020, current term ends in 2022; up for Re-election. Pro-God, pro-gun, and pro-coal. Is against state or federal regulations he thinks infringe on the rights of Franklin County residents (example, the Governor’s COVID-19 mitigation measures—he would not enforce these). Wants federal inmates in the juvenile detention center to ‘generate revenue’. Public Health and Safety Committee Chairman

Meetings: Second Tuesday of the month, 10 am.

Tim Atkisson

Republican, term ends in 2026, hopes to create jobs with living wages; positive towards the new casino and new enterprise zone. Says he intends to represent “everybody in this county”. (2020 statements after winning election) Acted as the County’s liaison for the Walker’s Bluff casino project, member of Illinois Plumbing Examining Board.

Brent Gentry

Democrat, first elected in 2004, current term ends in 2022; up for re-election;Says 2022 is his last election, Believes it is important to have both political parties represented on the Commission. His listed accomplishments show his positions on issues. Sits on Franklin-Williamson Bi-County Health Board. He lists his accomplishments while Commissioner as: stopping corruption at the Williamson County Housing Authority; organizing the free trash dump days; cracking down on illegal dumping and dilapidated homes and properties; starting the county recycling program; with the state’s attorney, cracking down on animal abusers; pledged $25,000 of video gaming revenue each year for CASA to help abused and neglected children; initiated the county website; and uses his personal Facebook page to keep county residents informed.
